They ate drank and fought crime together. Everywhere the Caped Crusader went, the Boy Wonder was sure to follow. GPīatman and Robin were a team in my day.
If the battles involved more than just stiff jump-kicks and the throwing of bat paraphernalia, then it might be more fun to fight so many enemies, but in the end, many of the levels just become an annoying interruption between bosses. The downside here is in the game control and the flood of identical enemy after identical enemy. There is also a great two player feature that gets Batman and Robin out there together, the way they should be. Enemies range from balloons floating by with spiked balls hanging at the end of a string to tiny, unmanned helicopter-like death machines that buzz by without a care in the world. There are other solid aspects in this game which revolve around the originality of some of the enemies and bosses. In this new age of 32-bit machines it's easy to forget that it is possible to squeeze a good look out of the Genesis, but Sega has done a fantastic job in this case.
The one aspect of this game that shines above all others is the sharp and colorful graphics.
The difference here is that The Adventures of Batman & Robin is actually based on the stylistic cartoon series. Many of the situations and environments of the levels are based on episodes from the series and the game's graphics emulate the animation and drawing style of the show.With the return of Batman to the big screen came the return of that old familiar 'Bat Hype'. If some necessary equipment is missing, it is always possible to return to the Batcave to change the gear and then restart the current level. Special equipment required for certain levels include a flashlight, gas mask and X-ray goggles. Before each mission, Batman can also select additional equipment, like knockout gas spray, throwing stars, smoke bombs and plastic explosives, all with limited ammunition. Always available are Batarangs and the grappling hook. Two-Face's level is a driving sequence, seen from a top-down perspective.īesides kicks, throws and punches, Batman can use a variety of equipment against the enemies. In the Penguin's level, Batman must navigate the dark corridors of Gotham City's museum, rescuing the staff. For instance, Catwoman's stage is a large chase over Gotham City's rooftops with no enemies besides Catwoman herself. Most levels present Batman with a large number of henchmen to take out and environmental dangers to avoid on his way to one or more boss battles, but some deviate from the norm. Konami's game based on the 90s animated series starring the Caped Crusader sends him against his most famous enemies in a platforming/beat'em'up title.Įach of the game's eight levels (or episodes) sends Batman against one particular villain.
